Recognized as a National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI), Contractor of the Year (CotY) award-winner.

Homes built in the1990's often have kitchen floor plans that are claustrophobic with spaces designed for appliances that are smaller than what is available today. The homeowners, who are nearing the empty nest stage of their life, needed to replace their appliances but to do so would require modifications to their existing cabinets. They made the choice to move forward with a full kitchen remodel designed to fit their lifestyle. The decision was a value-oriented solution that ultimately eliminated the need to alter cabinetry now and revisit their plans for a remodel in the future.

Working with the homeowners we created a design that has all of the benefits of an open concept kitchen while retaining the existing placement of mechanical systems. The result is a redesigned kitchen that became the heart of this home and provides the best attributes of open concept living at a greatly reduced cost. This kitchen remodeling project was completed in less than 3 months to ensure it was ready for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Kitchen Island With Matching Backsplash

A key design feature in this kitchen remodel is the Caesarstone Himalayan Moon quartz backsplash behind the LG slide in gas range. It is the same material used for the kitchen island countertop. Quartz was chosen in place of marble tile in order to create a seamless look without grout lines. Marble requires frequent maintenance and stains easily. This quartz backsplash has a similar look, matches the island, and requires absolutely no maintenance.

Window Seating and A Built-In Bookshelf

We were able to retain the existing window location and design a built-in bench seat. The seat allows the refrigerator’s French doors to open easily. The window seat is a unique feature that provides the opportunity for conversation during meal preparation.

Transitional Design Elements

The kitchen cabinets are a two-color scheme–in Heather and Virtual Taupe. They were manufactured by Auburn Ridge Cabinetry. The island countertop is Caesarstone Himalayan Moon and the cabinet hardware is from Berenson. The perimeter countertop is Silestone Marengo. Wall paint color is Accessible Beige from Sherwin Williams and the island pendants are from Kichler. View this home's master bathroom remodel.

Deep Pantry Cabinetry

The coffee bar/small appliance center and very functional floor to ceiling pantry cabinets provide the homeowners a place to store large items as well as a convenient location to set heavy items like stand mixers while preparing for meals.

The Best Attributes Of Open Concept

Though this kitchen is open concept, the layout was designed to provide a bit of privacy when guests arrive at the front door. The person entering gets a preview of the kitchen without seeing the whole thing. An island peninsula was removed to open the space between kitchen and dining area and provide more space for the table.
