Charles and Samantha are clients who met us over ten years ago at an open house event we were hosting. Deciding to stay put in their current home, it was a dozen years before they decided to become our clients. They hired our team to build a three-season room addition to the house that they had owned this entire time. Now empty nesters with kids in college, they needed the room for a therapeutic sauna. Their home in Windsor, Wis. had a deck that was underutilized and in need of maintenance or removal. Having followed our work on our website and social media for many years, they were confident we could design and build the three-season porch they desired.

A Warm, Luxurious Three-Season Room Addition

Charles and Samantha enjoy doing DIY work and decorating and have made numerous updates to the interior of their home over the years. Their sense of style inspired a slightly rustic, warm wood interior in the room. In addition to space for the sauna, another essential thing to them was a comfortable area for relaxing and reading. We designed this three-season porch to accommodate a large sectional and the sauna. Large full-size windows accentuate calm horizontal lines in the place, while exposed collar ties help humanize the scale of the cathedral ceiling slope.

A Petite Deck Built For The Grill

Another feature that Charles and Samantha requested was a small grilling deck. They did not need much outdoor space at all, just enough to accommodate the grill, moving it away from the house far enough away to prevent a fire hazard. They preferred not to have a stairway for privacy and security reasons, and because the egress building code did not require it. From the exterior, the new porch has lines that tie the addition perfectly to the rest of the house. The new porch also adds interest to what was otherwise a very flat rear facade.

About the Finnish Sauna:

While many people are familiar with infrared saunas, this sauna is an authentic Finnish sauna. That means that the rocks are heated, and water is poured on them to create steam. A Finnish sauna is much hotter than infrared saunas are. Accordingly, we paid great attention to vapor retarder details when we insulated this 3-season room, and we used Advantech moisture-resistant subfloor to minimize the risk of damage as steam condenses back into liquid water.

Our Clients Are Overjoyed With The Design And The Build

All of the above design elements came together to create a beautiful new three-season porch. It is ready to be used in the glorious summer and the perfect spot to sneak out to the sauna on cold winter days. Charles and Samantha are delighted to begin utilizing this porch yet during the pleasant fall months.

When you hire for quality you could have always found a cheaper price at lower quality. When you hire Degnan you’re hiring for quality design and workmanship, excellent communication, and a commitment to their product. When you understand this the value proposition is obvious vs other contractors.

Everyone we worked with knew what they were doing. A knowledgeable team. It’s either perfect to start with or they make it that way in short order.
