Recognized as a National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI), Contractor of the Year (CotY) award-winner.

As a part of a multi-room interior and exterior renovation for our clients Dan and Jane, we added a home addition to the back of the house to increase the home's usable space, improve its aesthetic appeal, and increase its functionality. They had a particular vision for their remodel, both for the interior and exterior of the home.

We worked closely with the homeowners to address their specific functional and aesthetic needs and transformed their home into the living space they've been envisioning. With the addition, we were able to add much-needed usable space and open up the sightlines from the front of the house to draw visitors into the space by emphasizing the beautiful views. We also combined two small bedrooms to create the perfect main level master suite, including his and hers walk-in closets and a right-sized ensuite master bathroom. We also addressed the exterior. By using a combination of texture, color, pattern, and material, we created a sculptural exterior design that transformed the home from an ugly duckling into a proverbial swan!

Connecting to The Natural Surroundings

The clients came to us with the desire for a design that was specific to them. Their energy and lust for life made those visions very clear from the moment they entered our office. Jane is an artist who needed a home that reflected her vision of nature. Dan, who works at home, needed a tranquil space that he can walk through on a daily basis, and conduct business. They both had a desire to connect the natural beauty of their surroundings with the interior of their home.

Visually Opening Up The Space

The homeowners enjoy entertaining family and friends and, during our initial meeting, stated that during gatherings, most guests would congregate in the kitchen, which is very common. The solution? Make the kitchen blend with the living room. To accomplish this, we removed a large square column near the dining room, which opened the view from the front door to the back of the house.

We also removed an unused chimney to open the main level space to take advantage of the view. We then removed the entire back wall and replaced it with an angled wall of glass, which includes a 12-foot back patio door and added a small deck extension. This not only created additional living space, but the commanding view of the beautiful backyard also draws guests immediately to the living room, bypassing the kitchen altogether! Mission accomplished!

A Home Addition to Showcase A Stunning Collection

Dan and Jane have an impressive and extensive collection of mid-century modern Scandinavian furniture that provided much of the inspiration for the design. Many of the pieces are original and authentic, including the wall-hung furniture system in the living room, and a stunning buffet and hutch visible from the living room. Click Here To View The Master Bathroom Suite Project Page

The exterior makeover transformed the home from an ugly duckling into the proverbial swan! The angled addition punctuates the back of the house. For the from, we created a new, contemporary porch roof extending across the front of the house and then the garage, making a bold statement. We use a combination of materials including Mastic brand board and batten siding in mystic shadow, upgraded the lighting using Hinkley, Harbor flush mount lighting in satin black for the front door, and a Hinkley Colfax Latern in bronze in the rear of the home. The new Simpson Contemporary Exterior Collection front door with Baldwin Entry Hardware upped the curb appeal and added to the sculptural exterior design. Finally, the exterior upgrade was completed by the Cloplay Modern Steel Collection garage door adding to the home's new contemporary look!

This Stunning Home Addition Became The Perfect Gathering Place

Dan and Jane love the home's new aesthetic and improved functionality. From the comfortable master suite to the contemporary addition, perfect for showcasing their stunning collection of mid-century furniture, we completely transformed their home to meet their unique design aesthetic, exceeding their expectations, and creative vision!

I was concerned that they would stay within our budget and complete the project on time. They were great at keeping us up to date on those concerns during the project. The project manager was easy to work with and knowledgeable.
