Degnan Design-Build-Remodel renovated a master bathroom and powder room for our client Suzanne, an empty-nest professional living in downtown Madison at Metropolitan Place. She contacted us with a request to personalize her condominium and make repairs after a water leak damaged her floor. Suzanne loves her downtown condominium location but the bathroom finishes were unimpressive. Both the master bath and her second bath had the original maple cabinets, and the floor and the beige shower tile all blended together. In the master bathroom, she found the jetted tub annoying. She had to take a big step over the tub edge to shower and never used the whirlpool function. She asked that the tub be replaced with a larger more contemporary walk-in shower.

Condominium Master Bathroom Remodel

Both bathrooms and showers in this condominium have been updated with chic glossy tile, and the master bathroom adds stripes of multi-colored hexagon tile. These colorful accent mosaics provide add character. The master suite shower has a large recessed niche with glass shelving which provides a location for soaps and shampoo bottles. The vertically oriented shower wall tile is a 4X16” in a glossy greige color. Onix Blends Hexagon Mosaic tiles in Aquamarine color were used as an accent and the grout is Alpine White. A thick European style glass door completes the look of the shower. The floor tile is a12x24” by Burano in Sabbia Mezzo, with Alpine White grout.

Powder Room Renovation

The vanity cabinet in the powder room was removed and replaced with a pedestal sink, a toilet topper cabinet and a recessed storage niche. This makes this small bathroom feel larger while providing ample storage.

Working in a high-rise condo is complicated due to elevator usage restrictions, the staging of materials and daily trash removal. Restrictive plumbing codes in the concrete high-rise building also means that drain lines must remain in place and could not be enlarged. These restrictions meant that the bathrooms layout went unchanged and reduced the additional cost that often comes with moving plumbing fixtures.
