I was born and raised in the City of Madison.  I grew up on the west side of the city and attended Madison Memorial High School.  I was a youth athlete and very much committed to the sport of football.  As you can see in the team picture, the 1980’s hairstyle made the athlete! I suffered a significant injury during my senior year which ended my plans to compete at the college level.  My focus shifted to career planning and professional pursuits.  

I attended a law course and immediately connected with that area of emphasis.  I pursued an education at the University of Wisconsin Platteville in the field of criminal justice with an emphasis in law enforcement.  I graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree and was offered a policing position with the Sun Prairie Police Department.  I completed the required certification through the Wisconsin Department of Justice, Training, and Standards Bureau and the required City of Sun Prairie department training program.

I represented the pride, honor, and nobility of the policing profession for over 26 years in Sun Prairie.  I proudly held positions as a Police Officer, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Assistant Chief of Police, and Interim Police Chief.  I feel extremely privileged to have represented executive-level leadership in law enforcement throughout the mid-west and the country. 

I retired from the law enforcement profession in 2021 and began searching for a new professional path.  A solid professional foundation is important to me.  Quality leadership, a well-defined vision, a clear mission, a strong value system, and talented team members are all critical for a successful organization.  I am very fortunate to have found all of these with the Degnan team.     

I have been married to Michelle since 1997 and our family lives in Waunakee.  We have two children, Parker and Peyton.  I am proud of both of them as they are high-character people with strong values and a clear sense of direction.  I am excited to see their path in life!  Our four-legged family member is named Brady and as you can see from the photograph, he is a fierce protector of our home!

I enjoy music and movies.  Growing up in the 1980s made me a fan of the greatest music and movies ever made.  A special nod to Phil Collins, Billy Joel, Bon Jovi, Journey, Def Leppard, Van Halen, and Lionel Richie.  I have so many great memories of their music.  Some of the most timeless movies that can be found in my collection include Raiders of the Lost Ark, Die Hard, Princess Bride, Back to the Future, Ghostbusters, Hoosiers, Caddyshack, The Breakfast Club, Top Gun, and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.  There’s never a bad night to watch a classic! 

Traveling is a much-needed escape for me.  I enjoy vacationing in Walt Disney World, cruising the ocean, and walking the ocean shoreline.  I am young at heart and enjoy vacation spots that allow me to take time out in life to be a kid again.  It is way too easy to get lost in this fast-paced world that we live in.  As the wise Ferris Bueller says, “Life moves pretty fast.  If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.”  Great life advice, right out of the 1980s!
