Getting the House Ready for Spring
The birds are chirping, little green buds are beginning to poke their heads out of your favorite tree outside the kitchen window, and you are more than ready for a fresh start. Should you attempt that remodeling project? Is your bathroom in need of a fresh coat of paint? Or maybe you want to clean every square inch of your home, and would like to top it off with that perfect finishing touch to your decor? Spring is the time when our minds begin to race, and anticipation of early mornings, and warm summers begin to replace thoughts of cozy evenings by the fireplace. Brushing up on the latest design trends is a great way to begin the process of getting ready for spring. Here is a look at some popular home trends for 2016, be it kitchen, bathroom or living spaces, many which have helped inspire our latest designs.
Soft Colors & Nature
Have you been wanting to replace that bright accent wall in the living room, but don’t know where to begin? Here is an idea. Soft, muted color palettes seem to be the popular idea this year. Subtle hues with gray-green undertones are especially popular. Alabasters, and neutral shades are also on high demand. The perfect compliment? Bringing nature indoors. Nothing speaks fresh and breezy more than neutral backdrops with pops of foliage. The plant life doesn’t have to end when summer does, feel free to swap those flowers or ferns for a heartier plant in the winter.
In a world where nearly everyone owns a tablet and a cell phone, it is no surprise that smart spaces would make it on the list of home trends for 2016. Creative charging stations, like the one seen here, are being integrated into homes wherever possible, and living rooms are becoming a place for family gatherings. The days of designing an entire room around the TV are quickly becoming replaced. By the use of innovative space design, televisions, gaming systems and cords are being concealed to create a homier atmosphere that reflects family. Of course, they can easily be brought back out again on rainy days.
Multi Colored Cabinets & the Huge Island
Gone are the days when all of your kitchen cabinetry needs to be exactly the same. This spring, you can have a little fun! Go ahead and keep the upper cabinets a neutral color, or a light wood, but don’t shy away from being a little creative with your bottom cabinets. A painted color on the lower cabinets is a great way to add a bit of interest without going over the top. Talk to a designer to find a color that is right for your home and your style. If you have room, consider adding an island – a huge island if possible. And if you don’t like the idea of mismatched cabinetry, an island is a great piece, not only as a welcoming place for friends and family, but also to add a decorative splash of color and modern style to your kitchen.
Do you want to add a touch of ambience to your kitchen or bathroom? Consider under-cabinet lighting. Not only will under cabinet lighting brighten up a dimly lit space, but it will provide the illusion of a larger space. Under cabinet lighting adds versatility to your kitchen or bathroom, and you don’t have to limit them to under your cabinets. New home trends for 2016 say they can be included above your cabinets, inside cabinets and beneath countertop overhangs as well.
Texture, Texture, Texture
What would be a better compliment to those neutral walls than texture? Texture is a great way to bring in soft splashes of color, create subtle contrast, and eye-catching visual appeal. Don’t go overboard though, a creative designer will use the same texture (rug, backsplash, flooring, tiles) in various creative ways to add interest to a room and showcase attention to detail.
