Jeff and Trisha, a professional couple with a home in Midvale Heights were our clients for this 1950's ranch remodel.  Their renovation goals included modernizing and brightening a dark kitchen, creating better flow from the entrance through the home, eliminating wall paneling and a tack-up ceiling in the living room, and adding contemporary Craftsman design elements.  This home renovation project was completed in May 2018.

A Contemporary Kitchen Remodel

The kitchen in this home still had its original dark cabinetry from the 1950's.  Over the last 70 years, style and sizing of appliances have changed causing problems fitting modern appliances. New kitchen cabinets by Auburn Ridge Custom Cabinetry were installed to solve this problem. The cabinets are constructed from solid maple, have a chestnut colored stain and were designed with Greenwich style, full overlay doors with slab drawer fronts. The appliances include a Vent-A-Hood Euro Style Wall Mount Range Hood, Samsung Trifecta Microwave, and a 30” gas cooktop, single wall oven and dishwasher by Jenn-Air.

Custom Design Features

The kitchen design includes a custom bench beneath the window to provide more casual seating in the kitchen. This was a cost-effective way of adding more storage while not disrupting the window in a brick exterior wall. On either side of the bench seat is extra storage and display shelving. The clients also requested a small walk-in kitchen pantry, which happens to be pictured with no shelving.

 
 

This Home Received New Flooring

The living room and hallways have a site finished hardwood floor in 2 ¼” Appalachian Select Red Oak, a deep tone sealer, high-traffic satin finish and flush wood HVAC vents. The flooring for the foyer and kitchen is a luxury vinyl tile by Armstrong called Mesa Stone. It is 16" x 16" in Light Grey with Smoke grout. The powder room is Mannington Adura Max 12x24 luxury vinyl tile (LVT) in Cascade Sea Mist installed without grout.

 

Powder Room Design

This bathroom has a distinctive vanity cabinet by Ronbow named the Leonie. It has a dark cherry finish with an oval ceramic sink and a Brizo Sotria lavatory faucet in luxe nickel.

The new powder room was designed to use the same plumbing wall as the old powder room and was placed in an underutilized location. This attention to design reduced costs and maximized the use of floor space .
